Bricks + Agent announce partnership with Places for People Innovation Lab

Property maintenance and services marketplace Bricks + Agent has been selected as a key contributor for the Places for People Innovation Lab in the UK.

The latest partnership will see Bricks + Agent build collaborative working relationships with the organisation and help them to identify, pilot and implement new technology based on the disruptive potential of the Bricks + Agent product and technology.

Places for People manage over 200,000 properties across the UK. The innovation lab is a new initiative run by the property management company in conjunction with corporate innovation specialists, L Marks.

As only one of a select few startups to be invited to the innovation lab, Bricks + Agent is in a unique position as the only startup from the Australian market.

Rafael Niesten, co-founder at Bricks + Agent said: “This partnership offers us a unique opportunity to adapt our product for Places for People and have our teams collaborate and help build places now and for the future. This is an exciting time for Bricks + Agent as we look to launch in the UK in the coming months.”

The programme is set to provide a number of valuable opportunities and include:

  • Mentorship from senior leaders from the Group and subject-matter experts from across the sector
  • Development opportunities and product validation
  • Pilot opportunities with 20 specialist companies within the Group
  • The chance to pitch for a longer term collaborative relationship

In his early 20s, Perth local Rafael Niesten, won a scholarship to study in Canada, with that came the opportunity to volunteer at a local radio station. That spawned his entrepreneurial streak, returning to Perth in 2001 he set up community radio Groove FM. More by luck than design, they became successful, too successful as they took a significant chunk of the Perth Market. This sent up the red flag with his commercial competitors who saw to it that he came before the Australian Broadcasting Authority and on technicalities such as the number of volunteers he was forced to move on. He received the citizen of the year award for Western Australia (youth) and was a finalist in the Australian of the year awards (Youth). Falling on his sword he turned to running small and large scale events, all the while buying, renovating and selling properties. Buying and selling land and renovated houses provided a grounding in the property industry. In 2006 he moved to Sydney lured by the offer of free rent for 10 months in a friend’s apartment. He founded a cloud based medical grade voice recognition company, followed by co founding the first true cloud application for private practice in the health sector. He successfully exited these ventures at the end of 2016 and began building Bricks+Agent.
