How To Install Sarking

sarking

Roof sarking installation is the process of positioning a flexible laminated membrane under your roof before installing the roofing material. This is something that is required by law in almost all parts of Australia. The laminated membrane has an aluminium top layer which has plastic and sometimes fibre-glass reinforcement.

Is it important to install sarking?

Below are reasons why you need to install sacking in your roof:

  • It protects your roof and prevents water from entering through the roof.
  • It provides your roof with thermal insulation
  • It prevents fine dust particles from forming on your roof
  • It safeguards your roof from fire by preventing sparks of fire from passing through the roof
  • It can avert the occurrence of condensation in bulk roof insulation.

How to install sarking

You need to choose a sarking that meets the terms of the Australian building code. (BCA)

You should note that if you have a metal roof, you should install sarking that is meant for metal roofs and the same applies to tiles. This is because not all sarking are alike.

On the other hand, paper-barked sarking is cheaper than fibre-glass reinforced sarking. Fibreglass might be the best choice because it is resistant to punctures and tears.

What should you look for when comparing products?

  • Strength of the tensile
  • Water barrier
  • Vapour barrier
  • Edge tear resistance
  • Flammability index

You should note that how to install sarking under metal roof takes a process of two stages.

It starts with installing the sarking and then laying battens over the sarking. You should lay the battens to offer a layer of air between the sarking and the roof to provide adequate insulation.

You should not try the DIY method of roof sarking installation because it involves working at heights. If you are not an expert, you might risk your life. You should, therefore, hire roofing and insulation experts to do the sarking installation for you.

Stepping out of the industry four years ago and moving interstate to expand a frozen yoghurt chain that has gone from 1 to 4 stores in the time he has been involved. This was recently sold to Made Group. Real estate has always been in his blood and it was a natural fit to start Bricks + Agent given the amount of insight he has into the industry as a whole. Having seen how all different forms of traditional marketing was used to the direction that it is now heading today, we think we have come up with a truly unique proposition that fits into the current state of the property maintenance market.
